Kings College School, London

The brief

Kings College School is an exceptional independent boys school based in Wimbledon, South West London. Having just undergone a large extension, incorporating a new classroom block and a multipurpose hall, Group GA were tasked with installing all of the electrics and fire alarm systems to a high specification.

The project

There was a great deal of crossover with the existing building; power, water and heating running through to the new extension, so there were temporary works to ensure that the school was fully functional and had all the resources required to carry on, whilst the building work was taking place. This was an unusual set up for Group GA and the team had to ensure this was safe for the duration of the project.

The project had a number of elements to it: this was one of the first commercial renewable jobs the team had taken on, with PV panels installed on the roof. There was also a large external car parking lamp-post scheme included. We have had previous experience with lamp-posts and have mastered a preferred method for installing them, which we were able to pass on to the team on site.

The schools’ lighting control system was sophisticated, allowing for daylight dimming so the lighting levels in the classroom would remain consistent for the pupils at their desks.

On completion, the greatest challenge was ensuring that the new services within the extension were fully integrated with the rest of the school and working together, including the fire alarm, data and security systems.

The result

Group GA successfully completed the project to the highest quality, whilst the existing school premises were fully occupied. Our team of experienced installers completed the brief on target, to budget and with an outstanding finish. The classrooms and multipurpose hall are still very much in use and will continue to support many future generations of children at the school.
